I have finished the final draft of my first novel, The Week in Radio. Before I start worrying about pitches or summaries, agents or publishers, I want to take a few moments to celebrate and to thank the people who helped me get this far! This novel has already come a long way!
First, thanks to Brian Corman and Linda Hutcheon at the University of Toronto for discussing your experience of the Toronto 2006 Ring Cycle and your experience of Wagner in general.
Thanks to Birthe Joergensen of the Canadian Opera Company Archives for allowing me to research the Toronto 2006 Ring and to screen a rehearsal performance of Das Rheingold for the visuals in the first section of the novel.
Thanks to Insomniac Press and the Ontario Arts Countil for the Writer’s Reserve Grant!
Thanks to Teresa van der Hoeven for amazing seats for the COC’s most recent production of Götterdämmerung.
Thanks to Ingrid Keenan, whose commentary on the first full draft enabled me to wittle #wkrad down to half its size.
Thanks to the dear, departed Marcella Hazan for writing the Monte Bianco recipe I just had to try before I had my character, Henry, make it for his big Hunter’s Feast in Section IV of the book.
Thanks to Robin J. Norris, Daniela Janes, and Wai-Ying Lee for Temperance with a capital T.
And, thanks to my husband, Blaise, and to my extended family, for, well, everything.
Now, forge your swords, Siegfrieds, let’s go slay some dragons!
